Wincing slightly, I glanced sidelong at him and found myself meeting his gaze head-on as I did.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m surprised that she\u2019s the one you\u2019re arguing about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou thought that I\u2019d argue with you about sending Thom?\u201d\u00a0 I shook my head, giving him a rueful smile.\u00a0 \u201cThey\u2019re more likely to keep each other out of trouble than the alternative.\u00a0 Besides, when we float this plan, I don\u2019t want Thom to feel torn between volunteering and not because he feels like he needs to stay here with me.\u00a0 Sure, I\u2019d like him with me, but sometimes we have to stop being selfish and do what needs doing.\u00a0 This is what needs doing and he\u2019ll know it if I don\u2019t fight it.\u201d<\/p>\n
