Sif said, crossing her arms. \u00a0&#8220;Someone&#8217;s done him harm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Huh?&#8221; \u00a0Marin&#8217;s gaze flicked to Thom and he winced. \u00a0Her eyes narrowed. \u00a0&#8220;Thom?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><i>God help me.<\/i> \u00a0&#8220;Someone&#8217;s taken his&#8211;what the hell did you call it, Seamus?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His <i>anima<\/i>,&#8221; Seamus said, glancing toward the bridge, his hand, still clutched in Leinth&#8217;s, drifted toward his hip and the horn again. \u00a0His lover held him fast, keeping him from his first instinct. \u00a0&#8220;We can&#8217;t waste time. \u00a0Every moment we wait, she&#8211;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What?&#8221; \u00a0Thom asked, feeling his chest tighten. \u00a0&#8220;She could what, Seamus?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Best to leave it unsaid,&#8221; the former Taliesin murmured, his eyes fluttering shut. \u00a0He tried to tug free of Leinth&#8217;s grip and failed. \u00a0She turned with him as he oriented toward the bridge. \u00a0&#8220;Come on. \u00a0We need to move quickly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Thom turned to follow him. \u00a0Marin grabbed the sleeve of his jacket, making him pause. \u00a0He hesitated to meet her gaze but eventually lifted his eyes to hers when it became clear that she wasn&#8217;t letting go.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What happened to Phelan?&#8221; she asked softly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Seamus&#8217;s daughter is an evil crone,&#8221; Thom whispered. \u00a0&#8220;She&#8217;s using Phelan&#8217;s soul as some kind of bargaining chip.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All the color drained from Marin&#8217;s face and for a moment, Thom thought she might fall. \u00a0She wavered for a moment and he caught her by the shoulders to steady her. \u00a0His wife stared at him, taking a deep, rasping breath.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How the hell is that possible?&#8221; she asked, her voice barely audible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Damned if I know,&#8221; Thom said. \u00a0He wanted to gather her into his arms and hold her tight against his chest. \u00a0&#8220;Doesn&#8217;t matter. \u00a0We&#8217;ll get him back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><i>We take care of our own. \u00a0We always have and we always will.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>He took her by the hand and followed Seamus to the bridge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;I saw Jay taking Phelan back&#8230;what happened?&#8221;
