I couldn\u2019t breathe. Going after Matt?<\/em> \u201cWhy?\u201d I asked, my voice strangled. \u201cWhy does she care?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGods only know,\u201d Seamus said with a slight shudder. \u201cWas he the Ridden Druid?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPhelan seemed to think so,\u201d Thordin said quietly.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnough.\u201d My throat was tight, heart starting to beat too fast. \u201cThere are more than enough people to take care of Matt if she can even get past the wards to get to<\/em> him.\u201d Oh shit, what the hell did I just bring down on my brother\u2019s head? Me and my\u2014her?\u2014big mouth.<\/em><\/p>\n

Thom\u2019s arm tightened around me. I tried to shrug free of the embrace and straighten. We had to find Phelan\u2014no one else could\u2014and we couldn\u2019t trust Thesan to hold to any bargain she made.<\/p>\n

The woman was nuttier than a jar of peanut butter.<\/p>\n

I sucked in a breath, feeling strangled. \u201cYou and Sif go back,\u201d I told Thordin. \u201cMake sure Matt and Cameron and everyone else is safe. Something tells me that the only thing that would be worse than her getting her hands on Matt would be finding out about Cam.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leinth made a pained sound. \u201cShe can\u2019t,\u201d she whispered. \u201cWe can\u2019t let that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seamus stared at her for a moment and she shook her head. \u201cNever mind. Don\u2019t ask.\u201d Leinth swallowed hard and headed for the rubble, her step firm and her stride purposeful. \u201cMarin\u2019s right. We need to find the vessel she\u2019s keeping Phelan\u2019s spirit in\u2014and pray she\u2019s not carrying it right now instead.\u201d<\/p>\n

I swallowed hard and nodded to Thordin and Sif. \u201cGo. Please, just go and make sure they\u2019re safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thordin hesitated a moment before he nodded. \u201cRight. Neve wouldn\u2019t forgive me anyway if something happened to Cam.\u201d He glanced at Sif, whose lips thinned even as her eyes narrowed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like it,\u201d she said softly. \u201cThere\u2019s too much going on here, too much strangeness. It doesn\u2019t feel right.\u201d<\/p>\n
