\u201cThree days,\u201d Jacqueline practically snarled. \u201cIt\u2019s been three days<\/em>. Why hasn\u2019t he woken up yet?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, the one you need to ask is the one that\u2019s currently unconscious,\u201d Neve murmured, hugging one knee a little tighter against her chest.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it\u2019s just the shock,\u201d Cameron said, sounding doubtful. \u201cIt could be, right? Between the attack and getting his anima<\/em> ripped out unexpectedly…\u201d<\/p>\n

Gods safe keep you, Cameron. Thank you for trying.<\/em> Neve bit down hard on her lip and stared blankly at her unconscious cousin, stretched out in his bed, cocooned in so many blankets he looked three times his normal size. \u201cAs far as I\u2019ve ever known, he should have been awake by now. We must have missed something.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat could we have missed?\u201d Jacqueline asked, her tone edging into desperation territory. \u201cMarin found the urn. Thesan said that\u2019s what it was in and she found it. She put it back in him\u2014God only knows how, because I haven\u2019t got a clue\u2014and he should be fine now. But he hasn\u2019t woken up.\u201d She sucked in a breath. \u201cIs the Hunt still going to take her when they go?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t see how they have a choice,\u201d Neve said quietly. \u201cWe can\u2019t keep her here. We don\u2019t have a safe place to hold her. At least among the Hunt they\u2019ll have a hope of containing her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cameron snorted humorlessly. \u201cAnd she\u2019ll have what she wants\u2014proximity to her father.\u201d<\/p>\n

A shiver shot down Neve\u2019s spine. There was<\/em> that. \u201cI\u2019m still not sure that we\u2019re going to let the Hunt take him when they leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe leads them, Neve. How the hell would he stay behind when the rest of them go?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s got to be some kind of loophole,\u201d Neve said. \u201cLeinth and I have been trying to figure out how to make it work. Sif\u2019s been wracking her brain to find a way. She said that she thought she\u2019d heard a story long ago that might help but she can\u2019t quite remember what it was. She\u2019s been digging through the books Marin and the others rescued from the library trying to find something that\u2019ll spark her memory.\u201d Her lips thinned. \u201cI\u2019m not going to give up my brother so easily right after we\u2019ve found him, Cam. I can\u2019t do that. It\u2019s not in me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou left Teague easily enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTeague\u2019s a pain in my ass and Kira is more than capable of keeping him well in hand. Never mind the fact that we never thought he<\/em> was dead. We thought we lost Seamus more years ago than I care to count.\u201d Neve\u2019s fingers dug into the fabric of her pants where she hugged her leg against her. \u201cNow we have him back and I\u2019ll be damned if I let him just vanish again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need him to talk to Thesan,\u201d Jacqueline said. \u201cShe did something<\/em>\u2014more than just rip Phelan\u2019s consciousness out of his body. If she didn\u2019t…\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll find out what she did, Jac,\u201d Cameron said. \u201cBut we\u2019re not going to ask Seamus to be the one to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jacqueline\u2019s eyes blazed. \u201cFine. I\u2019ll do it myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
