He\u2019d grown used to the nicknames the rest of the Hunt had saddled him with over the years and the one that Ghyslain had given him had been the one that stuck the most easily. He couldn\u2019t say that he minded&#8211;though there were other things that he\u2019d have liked to be called.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is it, Ghys?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been talking,\u201d Ghyslain said slowly, the wings of his cloak falling closed in front of him, the dark wool hiding the leather breastplate the archer favored. \u201cThe lot of us have been talking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seamus arched a brow. \u201cAbout what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout you, my old friend. You have kin, Seamus. <em>Living<\/em> kin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His throat tightened and he bobbed his head once in a nod. \u201cI do. An abundance of it, in fact, if what I\u2019m being told is to be believed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re the only one amongst us that has that, you know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seamus winced, squinting at the late morning sun and the glare of its light off the ice and snow. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, Ghys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Bon dieu<\/em>, Seamus, don\u2019t be sorry. We\u2019re glad for you, glad that you\u2019ve found them, found this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I can\u2019t stay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghyslain was quiet for a long moment before he cleared his throat. \u201cAbout that&#8211;we know that they\u2019ve been digging for a solution to that problem, <em>mon Capitain<\/em>, and we\u2019ve been looking at the records that old Anselm has been carrying around for nigh unto forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one leaves the Hunt unless death finally takes them, Ghys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ridden Druid did,\u201d Ghyslain said softly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou sound like my sister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghyslain shrugged slightly. \u201cPerhaps there\u2019s something to what she\u2019s said and what she\u2019s thinking. Seamus, listen. It\u2019s not written anywhere that you can\u2019t be <em>released<\/em> from the Hunt&#8211;that the Hunt can\u2019t decide to simply let you go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seamus blinked at him. \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghyslain smiled. \u201cThat\u2019s what Anselm told us, anyhow. There\u2019s just one thing we want in return if you can convince them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He couldn\u2019t breathe, felt light-headed. \u201cI&#8211;what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want someplace to call home, Seamus. If we let you go, we want to be able to return and stay, too. It\u2019s been a long while since any of us had a place we could call home. We want that for ourselves and each other&#8211;as much as we want you to have a future with the people you love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8211;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghyslain clapped him on the shoulder. \u201cThink on it, Seamus. It could benefit us all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGhys&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His friend smiled and shrugged. \u201cIt may be that it\u2019s time for the Hunt to fade, <em>mon Capitain<\/em>.
