Bad news or not, you\u2019ve got a job to do.<\/em> I took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly. \u201cWell, come on,\u201d I said, turning back toward the gates. \u201cI think I know where to find Thordin, at least. And for god\u2019s sake, don\u2019t let him hear you call him Odinson. It pisses him right off.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s who he is,\u201d Vasily said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vasily followed me through the gate, his companions breaking off from he and I to tend the horses and report in to the Hunt\u2019s master.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you know where he\u2019ll be?\u201d Vasily asked.<\/p>\n

I nodded. \u201cProbably at the forge with my brother\u2014it\u2019s where he usually is when the sun\u2019s still showing her face to the world. We could get lucky and Sif may be there, too.\u201d I wasn\u2019t going to hold my breath hoping she\u2019d be there, though. Things were still awkward between the pair, even months after Sif\u2019s sudden arrival at our gates. At least my brother had finally forgiven her for the arrow thing.<\/p>\n

I wasn\u2019t quite sure I<\/em> had, but that didn\u2019t much matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWeapons,\u201d Vasily rumbled. \u201cAt least you people have priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n

I barely managed to prevent myself from breaking his jaw. \u201cNice of you to notice,\u201d I said, voice dripping with sarcasm.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t fazed.<\/p>\n

Matt\u2019s forge perched up on a hill overlooking the ravines, and it was pretty crowded inside when Vasily and I arrived. My brother was there, of course, face smudged with charcoal as he thrust whatever he was working for back into the coals to heat again. Thordin sat in the shadows near the door with J.T., sharpening blades, while my husband stood working the bellows. All four men looked at us as we entered, bringing a gust of chill air with us into the hot, dim space.<\/p>\n
