\u201cCalm down,\u201d Thom said. \u201cIt\u2019s not that we\u2019d be finding any trouble\u2014it\u2019s trouble finding us. Same as always.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSame as always is right,\u201d Matt muttered, drawing the axe-head back out of the fire and lifting his hammer. \u201cIf I were you, I wouldn\u2019t complain about J.T. tagging along. He\u2019s good in a fight and better at putting you back together again if needsbe.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cameron frowned. \u201cI don\u2019t like it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t have to like it,\u201d Thom said, picking up a whetstone and one of the blades Matt had finished that was still in need of honing. \u201cWe just have to deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cameron sighed and shook his head, looking toward Phelan. \u201cThe Morrigan, huh? Is she on our side?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch as it can be,\u201d Phelan said, leaning back. \u201cShe\u2019s not exactly the type to take sides, but she\u2019s always had a soft spot for…certain people.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen he says that, he means him,\u201d Matt said without looking up from his work. Phelan shot him a glare and Matt smiled wryly. \u201cDon\u2019t give me that look, Phelan, you know it\u2019s the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes I wonder how much you may or may not be lying about remembering C\u00edar\u2019s life, Matt.\u201d<\/p>\n
Matt just smiled and kept to his work. Thom gave him a long, appraising look, whetstone and blade half-forgotten in his hands.<\/p>\n
A good thing to wonder.<\/em><\/p>\n He wouldn\u2019t ask, of course\u2014not yet, anyway. Matt would probably talk to him about it eventually if he gave it enough time. It\u2019d come up sooner if sharing meant Marin would be safer.<\/p>\n As rocky as their beginnings had been, he and Matt had found common ground when it came to Marin.
