She looked tired, hands red from scrubbing and probably the cold. \u201cNo better, no worse. Sounds like a hell of a storm out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe spring\u2019s finally come,\u201d Jacqueline said, sitting down in the chair next to the door to remove her boots. \u201cI\u2019d get my hopes up if they weren\u2019t so often dashed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow\u2019s everyone out there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCameron\u2019s asleep\u2014he\u2019s battered, but he\u2019ll make it. J.T. did a quick and dirty patch for him in the field and it did its job. I\u2019m letting Marin deal with Thom, since he\u2019s already been stitched back together. Seamus wasn\u2019t really hurt\u2014just bruises and a few shallow cuts\u2014and J.T. barely had a mark on him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCariocecus?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She winced. \u201cStill unconscious. Greg\u2019s keeping watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBet he\u2019s thrilled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jacqueline laughed quietly. \u201cHe seemed like a good choice. He\u2019ll welcome a chance to have a heart-to-heart with the man if he wakes up, I think. Besides, he knows what kind of questions to ask.\u201d She stretched before she got up and padded across the floor to the bed, where Phelan sat with their blankets and his book. He lifted one corner of the blankets so she could join him. She slid beneath them and cuddled against his side, wrapping her arms around his waist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are you reading?\u201d she asked softly.<\/p>\n<p>Smiling a wry smile, he closed the book on his finger and showed her the cover. Jacqueline smirked, giving him an amused look.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMythology, Phelan? Really?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust brushing up,\u201d he said, kissing her ear. \u201cNever know when I might need it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou realize that you <em>are<\/em> mythology, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunny,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t feel like a myth right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d Jacqueline said, eyes sparkling with affection and mischief. \u201cYou certainly don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phelan grinned. \u201cI need to put this book away, don\u2019t I?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly if you don\u2019t want to lose your place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight,\u201d he murmured, twisting toward her and letting his finger slip from between the pages. \u201cNot worried about that.
