Phelan sucked in a breath and followed her, casting one last glance over his shoulder toward the ravines and the work the Hunt was doing. For all of the reservations and hesitance that had been felt, they\u2019d probably made the right choice in letting the Hunt settle with them. Their help in defending the place made it more<\/em> than worth the potential pitfalls.<\/p>\n

J.T. flashed him a thumbs-up from where he stood amidst the ranks of cover fire, Paul on one side of him and Carolyn on the other. Phelan tossed him a salute as he ducked past the line.<\/p>\n

I have never wanted to be wrong so badly in all my life.<\/em> Phelan cursed softly under his breath and broke into a run a few steps beyond the fire line, throat already growing painfully tight.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll never forgive myself if something\u2019s happen to Neve or Marin or Cameron\u2014any of them.<\/em><\/p>\n

He caught up to Leinth just inside the tent and fell into step with her, the pair pushing onward toward the fire. He could see Thom\u2019s back, the other man\u2019s shoulders tense, but his blade still secured in its scabbard.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s either a very good or a very bad sign.<\/em><\/p>\n

Thom twisted at the sound of their footsteps and Marin came into view beyond him, her brow furrowed in a mix of confusion and concern.<\/p>\n

\u201cPhelan? Why the hell aren\u2019t you out there with the others?\u201d Marin glanced at her husband. \u201cFor that matter, why aren\u2019t you <\/em>out there? All I said was that I was going to get my bow and\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd join us, we know.\u201d Phelan sucked in a breath and exhaled it slowly. \u201cWhere are Cameron and Neve?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Tala and the kids, taking cover. Is someone going to tell me what\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were afraid the Hecate was coming after you.\u201d Thom caught her hand and squeezed. \u201cCome on. We have to check on them.\u201d<\/p>\n
