We stood in silence for a few seconds before I managed to gather myself. I wet my lips and looked toward J.T. \u201cYou had something you wanted to talk to me about, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh.\u201d He took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly. \u201cYeah. I…I might have asked Carolyn to marry me.\u201d<\/p>\n

My heart lifted and I smiled. \u201cJay, that\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, sort of,\u201d he said. \u201cShe hasn\u2019t exactly said yes.\u201d<\/p>\n

I arched a brow. \u201cShe hasn\u2019t said no, has she?\u201d<\/p>\n

He shook his head. \u201cNo. She said she needed to think about it. Then all of this happened and we haven\u2019t really broached the subject since.\u201d J.T. shot me a weak smile. \u201cAnd somehow I don\u2019t think pushing for an answer is going to work in my favor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have nothing <\/em>to worry about,\u201d I said, and meant it. \u201cYou guys are great together and she\u2019s not going to say no.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve seen something,\u201d he murmured.<\/p>\n

Wincing, I nodded. \u201cA few somethings, anyway. She loves you, Jay, and she knows that you love her, too. It\u2019ll be okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

He finally looked at me again, tearing his gaze away from the ravine. \u201cEverything\u2019s going to be okay with Matt, too, Mar.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know,\u201d I said softly, then smiled, reaching over to squeeze his arm. \u201cI have to trust him.\u201d Glancing back, I saw \u00c9riu was still lurking nearby, watching us. \u201cI do <\/em>believe you, \u00c9riu.\u201d<\/p>\n

She nodded slightly. \u201cYou said that you did. I trust you.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you think you could find them?\u201d<\/p>\n

J.T.\u2019s question startled me, but it didn\u2019t seem to faze her in the slightest. She simply shrugged.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,<\/em>\u201d she said. \u201cBut even if I could, I won\u2019t leave. My place is here, with Marin and Neve and the children. I can\u2019t abandon them.<\/em>\u201d Her gaze flicked toward me and she smiled weakly. \u201cBesides, I don\u2019t think she wants me to.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Now it was J.T.\u2019s turn to be startled and he looked at me with a raised brow. I shrugged slightly.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s right.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

I sighed. \u201cThink about it, Jay. If \u00c9riu goes and we figure out where he is and it\u2019s true and she\u2019s really just damaged and needs help, our knowing where she is would just cause more trouble. People want to kill her and I can\u2019t blame them for it. I\u2019m sure Matt\u2019s fine. If he was dead, I\u2019d know.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019d know. I\u2019d have to know.<\/em><\/p>\n

My eyes slid shut.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time to stop looking. We have other things to worry about. He\u2019ll come home when the time is right. I know that he will.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen too much to believe otherwise.<\/em><\/p>\n
