We said we\u2019d be back in a couple of weeks. It\u2019s been more than a month. Someone has to go back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neve frowned, leaning back against the wall, her legs dangling over the edge of their bed. \u201cAnd you intend to volunteer to be the one to go? Do I get a vote in this because I feel like I should get a vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cameron turned, meeting her gaze. \u201cYou\u2019re worried.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m always worried. So\u2019s Marin. So are half the women in this bloody village. Can you blame any of us for that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course not.\u201d Cameron sat down next to her on the bed, his brows knitting. His wounds were mostly healed, now, and it had been mercifully quiet since the Hecate had snatched Matt from under their noses. There was a part of him that wondered if that was borrowed time, but he was glad to have had it either way. \u201cWould you rather someone else go? Your brother? Thom? J.T.? <em>Phelan<\/em>? Because that\u2019s the short list of people who know where we\u2019d be going and the short list of people who actually talked to Lara.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neve closed her eyes and exhaled a sigh, her fingers questing for his. Cameron took her hand and squeezed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy does it feel like it\u2019s always you or Thom?\u201d she asked softly.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron sighed softly. \u201cBecause it usually <em>is<\/em> me or Thom. Somehow, he or I end up shouldering responsibilities like that. I don\u2019t know what it is. Maybe it\u2019s what we\u2019re called to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neve stared at him for a long moment, then leaned against him, resting her head against his chest. Cameron wrapped his arm around her and hugged her tightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI shouldn\u2019t get so upset about it,\u201d she murmured. \u201cI knew what I was getting into when I fell for you. I should suck it up and deal with it, but it\u2019s hard. I love you and I sure as hell worry when you\u2019re away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I\u2019d be upset if you didn\u2019t.\u201d Cameron leaned down to kiss her gently. \u201cEverything will be okay, though. I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay,\u201d she whispered, wrapping her arms around his waist. \u201cPromise me something else, though?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cameron quirked a brow, looking down at her. \u201cWhat is it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlways talk to me about it first, before you decide to tell everyone you\u2019re going to do something?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He laughed and nodded. \u201cYour wish is my command.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[This post is from Cameron&#8217;s point of view.] \u201cWe\u2019ve kept them waiting too long.
