\u201cStop you from doing what?\u201d<\/p>\n

Neither of us had heard Seamus\u2019s approach, much less realized that he\u2019d jointed us just in time to hear Aoife\u2019s stubborn declaration. She stared at him, startled, her eyes wide like a deer caught in the headlights of a car.<\/p>\n

She hasn\u2019t discussed it with him.<\/em><\/p>\n

Idly, I wondered who else she hadn\u2019t made her intentions known to.<\/p>\n

Does her boyfriend know?<\/em><\/p>\n

Whether or not Gray knew and whether or not he thought it was a good idea wasn\u2019t my problem. What she wanted to do, though\u2014that was<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAoife\u2019s decided to go after Hecate whether we want her to or not,\u201d I said quietly, staring at Seamus.<\/p>\n

For a long moment, he just stared back, blinking slowly. Then his gaze shifted to take in his cousin, who stood in front of him with a stubborn set to her jaw.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that true?\u201d he asked softly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not<\/em> going to let her come after any of you again,\u201d she said, sounding almost<\/em> petulant, like a child who\u2019s been caught with their hand in a cookie jar after they\u2019ve been told they\u2019ll spoil their dinner.<\/p>\n

Seamus stared at her for a long moment before he shook his head slowly. His voice was mild, almost chiding as he spoke. \u201cI won\u2019t allow it, Aoife. It\u2019s too dangerous, regardless of who you\u2019ve managed to recruit to come along.\u201d A brow arched. \u201cWho have<\/em> you convinced to come along?\u201d<\/p>\n

She glared at him. \u201cYou can\u2019t tell me what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I can,\u201d he said quietly, stepping away from her and walking over to the fire to check the pot I\u2019d been tending. \u201cStew, Marin?\u201d<\/p>\n

I nodded, glancing from him to Aoife. She just stood there, staring at him, as if she was waiting for an explanation. Just when I thought it wasn\u2019t going to come, Seamus glanced back at her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the head of our clan, Aoife. For the good of our surviving kin, you\u2019re going to leave well enough alone. Am I clear?\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
