I took a deep breath and looked toward Cameron and Neve, whose approach slowed as they got a good look at Seamus and I. I took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly, massaging my temple.<\/p>\n

Regardless of everything else, you\u2019re still one of two people that are actually in charge around here.<\/em> I gave Seamus a tight smile, then turned back to Cameron and Neve. \u201cNo, it\u2019s fine,\u201d I said. \u201cWhat\u2019s the matter?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just needed to talk to you and Thom, that\u2019s all,\u201d Cameron said, his hand tightening around Neve\u2019s. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of important.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cif it\u2019s about what Aoife\u2019s planning to do, you don\u2019t have to tell me, I already know that she wants to go off and murder the Hecate and bring my brother back, assuming she doesn\u2019t decide that he\u2019s the enemy too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neve blinked. \u201cMy cousin wants to do what?\u201d<\/p>\n

I shook my head quickly. \u201cNever mind. What did you need to talk to me about, if it\u2019s not that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cameron and Neve exchanged a look, then Cameron took a deep breath. \u201cIt\u2019s probably better if we talk to you and Thom at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why does that make me nervous?<\/em> I frowned, but nodded. \u201cOkay. If you don\u2019t want to tell me without him, that\u2019s fine. Let\u2019s go find him and then we can talk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw him heading out to the barrows with Jameson,\u201d Seamus said quietly. \u201cLeinth was going to meet them out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

I took a quiet breath and nodded. \u201cRight, then. That\u2019s where we\u2019ll go.\u201d<\/p>\n

I moved the kettle a little further from the flames, abandoning all thoughts of the mug of tea I\u2019d been hoping for before Hurricane Aoife had arrived and shattered that plan. Just thinking about what she wanted to do was enough to make a dull throb rise in my temples and behind my eyes.<\/p>\n

If Matt gets hurt and she\u2019s the cause, I\u2019m never going to forgive her. I don\u2019t know what I\u2019ll do to her, but <\/em>something\u2019s going to happen\u2014I don\u2019t care whose sister she is and if Phelan approves or not. He\u2019s my brother and she\u2019ll have done something we all told her not to do.<\/em><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve exiled people for that before and we\u2019ll do it again if we have to.<\/em><\/p>\n

I just hoped against hope that it wasn\u2019t going to come to that.<\/p>\n
