A second later, a crashing noise echoed through the small house and Leviathan\u2019s laughter came to an abrupt end. It took every ounce of control Matt had not to go rushing into the sitting room to his lady\u2019s aid.<\/p>\n

Leviathan\u2019s voice came out strangled. \u201cWhat the hell was that, Hecate?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI told you to cut your shit,\u201d she said, voice all razored edges and glacial cold. \u201cEither answer my question or get out of my house.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt came up in conversation with a dear little friend of yours\u2014one of the ones you retained to hassle the Taliesin and company, if I recall correctly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m no longer concerned with them,\u201d Hecate said, her voice still cold. \u201cDid Menhit elect not to mention that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, no. She spoke on that at great length. She thinks you\u2019ve finally lost what few marbles you had left, to use a modern colloquialism\u2014I trust it makes sense to you, yes?\u201d<\/p>\n

Silence stretched for a few long moments, then Hecate said, \u201cGet out of my house, Yam. Please. I won\u2019t ask again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, if you\u2019re not going to ask again\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t be asking again because I will slit your throat and dispose of the body if you do not honor my request. I have asked you politely and you know me well enough that I will use force to get what I want if needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh yes,\u201d Leviathan said. \u201cOf that I\u2019m well aware. Menhit and I had words on that, in fact.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt\u2019s stomach started to sink.<\/p>\n

Hell.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cQuite a few of them, in fact. Like I said, she thinks you\u2019ve finally lost the last few marbles you had left and why is that? Oh yes. The boy, she said.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hecate\u2019s voice was a strained whisper and Matt could almost taste her fear. \u201cHe\u2019s not a boy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDruids never are.\u201d<\/p>\n
