Leviathan\u2019s gaze scythed across the kitchen, taking in the abandoned pots on the stove, the remnants of meal prep on the counters, left in situ<\/em> when he\u2019d knocked on her\u2014their<\/em>\u2014door. Then the man\u2019s pale eyes settled on Matt and a cold, almost cruel smile creased his lips.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got a bad feeling about this.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cOh. So it\u2019s you<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hecate\u2019s voice held a tremor. \u201cIf you touch him\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHush, girl,\u201d Leviathan growled without looking back. \u201cI have no intention of harming him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not yet, anyway.<\/em> Matt forced himself to stand up straight and meet the man\u2019s gaze. \u201cRather rude of you to barge in that way,\u201d he said, his voice carefully neutral. \u201cThough I imagine when you are what you at least were, you don\u2019t have to worry about that too much, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Shit, Astoris, why the hell did you just say that?<\/em><\/p>\n

Sometimes, he wasn\u2019t sure if he didn\u2019t actually have a death wish.<\/p>\n

Leviathan stared at him for a long moment\u2014long enough that Matt started to wonder if Hecate was going to have to make good on her threat. Then the man smiled.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have spirit. That can be useful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Somehow, I don\u2019t find that reassuring.<\/em><\/p>\n

Hecate shoved past Leviathan, shooting him a look that could have melted steel. \u201cBastard. Get out of my house.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think so.\u201d Leviathan wandered over to the breakfast nook and sat down, gazing at the two of them as he settled in. \u201cWe\u2019re nowhere near done. Why don\u2019t you two make some coffee and join me? We have a lot to talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cReally,\u201d Hecate said, her eyes narrowing. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine what we\u2019d have a conversation about.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlliances,\u201d Leviathan said softly, then gestured to the other chairs at the table. \u201cSit down, little sister. It\u2019s time we had a chat.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
