\u201cAlliances.\u201d She spat the word, her eyes narrowed. She drew up next to Matt, her hand finding his and squeezing hard. He squeezed back, schooling his face into a blank mask.<\/p>\n

This doesn\u2019t end well. No way this ends well.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dammit.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe I stuttered, Hecate. Now have a seat and we\u2019ll talk like civilized adults.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her jaw tightened. \u201cYou barge into my house uninvited and now you\u2019re giving me orders? I hardly think this is civilized.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWould you have let me in otherwise?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d she admitted. She made no moves toward the table, still standing with Matt near the door. Her grip on his hand just got tighter, as if he was the only thing keeping her anchored.<\/p>\n

He might have been, for all he knew.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere you have it, then,\u201d Leviathan said.<\/p>\n

He smiled and Matt\u2019s spine wanted to crawl right out of his body through the top of his head.<\/p>\n

This guy isn\u2019t what he wanted us to believe he was\u2014I should have trusted my gut when he showed up at the gates with his army.<\/em><\/p>\n

Shit. Where <\/em>is his army?<\/em><\/p>\n

They were near the coast\u2014overlooking the water.<\/p>\n

Matt\u2019s stomach dropped.<\/p>\n

Slowly, he moved toward the table. Hecate gave him a shocked look, but didn\u2019t stop him from tugging her along with him.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll have to explain later. She deserves that much.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dammit, dammit, dammit.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWell look at that,\u201d Leviathan murmured, watching them as they drew close. \u201cThis is unexpected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt cleared his throat and spoke quietly as he sank into a chair. \u201cDo what the lady says and cut your shit. You came to talk alliances. Tell us what you want.\u201d<\/p>\n

One corner of Leviathan\u2019s mouth curved upward into a faint smile. \u201cWhat I want is what was denied to me centuries ago. I want the world and I think that you\u2014both of you, in fact\u2014can help me finally claim it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
