\u201cThe stories say that he arose from an Otherworld that got closed off pretty early\u2014the stories don\u2019t say why, but they\u2019re very clear that he and his brethren were cut off from wherever the hell they came from. Their territory was pretty small all those centuries ago, when most of them still walked the lands. Leviathan\u2014Yam Leviathan, to be proper\u2014claimed the waters for his own back then, the rivers and the seas of the Levant.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe ruled them with an iron fist. A power that controls water in a desert isn\u2019t one to be trifled with, either.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cameron\u2019s brows knit. \u201cBut someone must have.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs they always do,\u201d Lara said. She gulped down some tea and leaned back, closing her eyes. \u201cHe was not without either rivals or ambition and we both know the ruin that can lead to.\u201d She exhaled. \u201cBut he was supposed to be dead. They did manage to kill him back then\u2014Yaweh\u2019s followers, Elohim\u2019s brood.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThordin was supposed to be dead, too,\u201d Cameron said quietly. \u201cBut he\u2019s as alive as you and I are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lara\u2019s eyes snapped open. \u201cOdinson?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe same,\u201d he said, then smiled faintly. \u201cI think everyone\u2019s starting to wonder if death isn\u2019t actually permanent anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

A shiver wracked Lara. \u201cI pray that it still is in most cases,\u201d she admitted. \u201cThere are too many things out there that once were dead that I think we\u2019d all like to see stay gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cameron shot her a crooked smile. \u201cI\u2019m going to take your word on that one.\u201d<\/p>\n

A little laugh escaped her and she nodded. \u201cThat\u2019s probably wise.\u201d She stared into her mug for a few moments before she sighed. \u201cDo you think we\u2019ll escape his notice?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve escaped everyone else so far, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMore or less,\u201d Lara said. \u201cI\u2019m waiting for the day that the Hecate shows up. Gods and powers know that she probably will at some point, given our relationship with your group and your connection to the Taliesin and the Aes Dana.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe, maybe not,\u201d Cameron rubbed at his temple. Was it his imagination, or did he feel a headache coming on? \u201cShe hit us a few weeks back.\u201d A few weeks? More than a month now, closer to two.<\/em> \u201cShe took Thom\u2019s brother-in-law and no one\u2019s seen or heard from her since.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
