They weren\u2019t his to command any longer, but he knew that they must have felt what he did, known in the very pits of their stomachs that there was something amiss, something wrong.<\/p>\n<p>He hadn\u2019t needed to see Marin going to the fire, see her talking to Tala, complexion ashen, to know that something was coming.<\/p>\n<p>He knew at his very core that something wasn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n<p>It was instinct more than anything that drove him toward the Hunt, toward his brothers and sisters in arms for so long. Even months later, he was still getting used to his freedom\u2014still having to force himself to remember that he was no longer one of them.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, somewhere inside, he always would be.<\/p>\n<p>Anselm met him near the outermost tents. The old soldier\u2019s expression was as grave as Seamus imagined his own might be.<\/p>\n<p>Seamus\u2019s voice came out as a rasp. \u201cWhat is it, old friend?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn old enemy,\u201d Anselm said quietly. \u201cOld and powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn enemy of ours?\u201d Seamus asked, falling into step with Anselm as the old soldier headed toward his tent. \u201cOr of&#8230;of my cousin, or the old souls?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of them,\u201d Anselm said, his voice grave. \u201cSouthrons, the ones that set the Ridden Druid against your kin, the ones we stole him from\u2014saved him from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p><em>Olympia arrays against us.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Hecate?\u201d he asked in a whisper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think so,\u201d Anselm said quietly. \u201cIt does not have the feel of her. Can\u2019t you sense it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seamus shifted uncomfortably. \u201cEnough to know something\u2019s amiss. Not enough to be able to identify it with certainty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anselm stared at him for a long moment before he nodded.
