\u201cCameron.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 I spun, moving to follow him. He was already three strides past me and moving fast.<\/p>\n

What the hell has him so spooked?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cCameron!\u201d<\/p>\n

He stopped the second time I called his name, body ridged but trembling from head to toe. He turned slowly to face me, his eyes wide and haunted. \u201cPlease, Mar,\u201d he said, his voice weak. \u201cI have to make sure she\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s fine,\u201d I told him. \u201cWhy wouldn\u2019t she be?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just have to see it for myself. Please. I\u2019ll meet you by the fire in ten minutes. Just let me do this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, all right.\u201d I bit my lip, swallowing hard. He gave me a weak nod.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

He broke into a run once he\u2019d gotten two steps beyond me.<\/p>\n

\u201cShould you have let him go like that?\u201d Rory asked a moment later as he stopped to stand behind my shoulder. I grimaced, wrapping my arms around my son. Little Lin made a quiet sound, shifting in the wrap where I carried him against my chest.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou think I should have stopped him?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMarin, what just happened was really weird.\u201d<\/p>\n

My lips thinned. \u201cI know. But I trust him and I definitely understand his reaction to whatever the hell happened out there. If I were him, I\u2019d want to see Neve, too. If it was me, I\u2019d want to see Thom.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess I can understand that.\u201d Rory stared in the direction Cameron had gone. \u201cWant me to wake anyone?\u201d<\/p>\n

I hesitated for a moment before I shook my head. \u201cNo. I\u2019ll handle this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feels like that\u2019s what it comes down to sometimes anyway.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cDo you want me to come?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStay on watch,\u201d I said. \u201cJust in case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rory nodded. He squeezed my shoulder before he headed back to the wall. The gates were closed and barred now. Everything was quiet.<\/p>\n
