Hecate watched her, pressing her lips tightly together, though only briefly. The tightness in Marin\u2019s expression matched hers and Hecate felt a new ache deep inside.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is my fault and we both know that it\u2019s my fault.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose bastards came here looking for me,\u201d she said softly. \u201cAnd now Leviathan will come looking for me, too. This is my fault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marin shook her head slightly as she sank down into the chair, shifting her sleeping newborn as she settled there. \u201cThey would have come anyway\u2014Leviathan came here once already. We had the feeling he was bad news then. This is just confirming it.\u201d She sounded tired. \u201cWe\u2019re targets no matter what happens. Don\u2019t feel like you brought this on us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hecate stayed quiet, trying to gather thoughts that had once again begun to scatter. Marin\u2019s voice drew her back again, quieting the riot starting inside her head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to face any of this alone. I\u2019m sure Matt\u2019s told you that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has,\u201d Hecate murmured, glancing toward him. He gave her a weak smile, one she matched, one corner of her mouth curling upwards briefly. \u201cThough I know it\u2019s hard for me to really believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve been through hell,\u201d he murmured, leaning in to press a kiss to her forehead. \u201cTrust is hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be hard even if I hadn\u2019t been,\u201d Hecate said, then exhaled a breath she hadn\u2019t realized she\u2019d been holding. Her gaze drifted back to Marin and she chewed her lip, studying the other woman. \u201cI owe you a lot of explanations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe one or two,\u201d Marin said. \u201cThey can wait if you\u2019re not ready to give them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hecate looked down.<\/p>\n<p><em>Am I ready?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Her heart was quiet.
