\u201cYou look like you\u2019re a thousand miles away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seamus turned toward the sound of his sister\u2019s voice, managing a slight smile. He\u2019d lingered beyond the walls even after Thom had headed in, lost in his own thoughts, turning things over in his head. \u201cMaybe I am,\u201d he said, looking away again, watching the western sky. \u201cJust getting some air.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMm.\u201d Neve came to stand beside him, idly rubbing her hands over her distended belly. Seamus glanced sidelong, studying her for a few seconds. All of his healer\u2019s training, long in the past but hardly forgotten, told him that she wouldn\u2019t be much longer before she gave birth. \u201cThere\u2019s plenty of air inside the walls, big brother. There\u2019s something tugging on you. I can feel it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDid Leinth send you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Neve laughed and shook her head. \u201cShould she have?\u201d<\/p>\n

He allowed himself a brief hesitation before answering, his guts suddenly churning. \u201cMaybe,\u201d he finally said, then sighed softly, chafing his hands over his arms. \u201cMaybe she should have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her tone gentled, voice growing soft. \u201cWhat\u2019s the matter, Seamus?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just have a bad feeling,\u201d he murmured. \u201cI said some things to Thom and maybe I shouldn\u2019t have, but maybe he still needed to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike what?\u201d<\/p>\n

Seamus exhaled a sigh, staring out at the horizon. \u201cI told him not to rely on the Hunt to protect everyone here. I told him that the walls weren\u2019t going to be enough. I shouldn\u2019t have said any of it, Neve. I\u2019ve only gone and upset him and that\u2019s the last thing he or any of the rest of us need.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neve was quiet for a few long moments, chewing her lower lip. \u201cDo you really think so?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes. No. Gods and monsters, Neve, I don\u2019t know anymore. I really don\u2019t. There\u2019s just\u2014I have\u2014I have a bad feeling. That\u2019s all.\u201d<\/p>\n
