She\u2019s right. He should be dead.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I should also know better than to underestimate anyone from Aegyptus, too, but apparently I\u2019m an idiot who thinks people from that particular Otherworld are going to stay dead just because I want them to. Nothing stays dead anymore\u2014and they\u2019ve got less reason than most.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thordin swore under his breath.<\/p>\n<p>He spotted Davon halfway between the wall and the well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThordin, what\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething\u2019s coming,\u201d Thordin blurted, barely pausing. \u201cGet the others up on the wall and do it fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s coming?\u201d Davon asked, spinning to track Thordin as he kept running. \u201cThordin!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrouble,\u201d Thordin shouted back, then he was at the edge of the tent and still moving fast. He could hear Davon\u2019s quiet curse behind him, but he also heard the other man start moving, too.<\/p>\n<p>His heart had climbed into his throat by the time he got close to the fire, but he could also hear the whistles of alarm being raised. Marin was already standing by the time he got there, her arms empty but the sling she carried her son in hanging loose around her chest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d she asked, her voice steady.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething\u2019s coming. It\u2019s not a normal storm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The figure sitting on the ground at Marin\u2019s feet stiffened, sucking in a soft breath. \u201cI knew it,\u201d Hecate breathed. \u201cI knew something didn\u2019t feel right.\u201d She looked back over her shoulder toward Thordin, her eyes wide and afraid\u2014more afraid than he could rightfully say he\u2019d ever seen them, though he\u2019d seen little of her in the days of old and remembered even less.
