Sif\u2019s eyes narrowed as she tracked Anhur\u2019s approach, squinting at the shadows that seemed to gather around his feet, writhing and twisting. She hadn\u2019t determined whether or not it was an optical illusion when Seamus joined her on the wall, grim-faced.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was fast,\u201d she said. \u201cThordin find you first?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI could feel something coming,\u201d Seamus said, his voice low and grim.<\/p>\n

\u201cMm,\u201d she said, frowning slightly. \u201cOne of the great hunters has harnessed the skies again. Anhur comes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was supposed to be dead. We heard about it in the north.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThordin killed him at Saqqara,\u201d Sif said quietly, shifting her weight. She had an arrow at hand, but her draw arm was relaxed as she watched the enemy\u2019s advance. \u201cHe shouldn\u2019t have been able to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAegyptus always had its secrets,\u201d Seamus murmured, shaking his head. \u201cAnd they certainly had a penchant for cropping up just when you thought they were down for the count.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was dead<\/em>, Seamus. Thordin took off his head.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut did you burn the body?\u201d<\/p>\n

Sif winced.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll take that as a no,\u201d Seamus said, then shook his head, leaning forward slightly. He wore a sword strapped to his hip and had a bow at hand. \u201cThat\u2019s the only way to make sure they stay gone with that one, Sif.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cForgive me if we didn\u2019t have the luxury of immolating the corpse, Seamus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just saying.\u201d<\/p>\n

She felt the very strong temptation to punch him, one she suppressed ruthlessly. Behind them, she could hear the sounds of Paul and some of the others manning the watchtower, preparing for a fight. Her jaw tightened.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t suppose we\u2019re anticipating the ability to negotiate,\u201d Seamus said, glancing back over his shoulder for a moment, then forward again to the advancing storm.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Sif said. \u201cNot at all. Thordin killed him, Seamus. He\u2019s not here to negotiate with us. He\u2019s here to take down anyone who gets in his way.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
