What the hell do you have to be sorry for? How is that <em>your<\/em> fault?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause she\u2019s looking for me, I said, sucking in a breath and trying to calm down. \u201cShe\u2019s looking for <em>me<\/em>, Thom. I\u2019m the one that\u2019s going to end up drawing her here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s looking for Brigh\u00edd\u2019s soul,\u201d he said, his voice half muffled in my hair. \u201cIt\u2019s not your fault that soul\u2019s in you. Her coming here isn\u2019t going to be your fault, either. I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cII should have told you.\u201d My arms tightened around him slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTold me what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat she attacked me once already. That I knew she was coming. I should have told you all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn your defense, I wasn\u2019t in much of a state for you to tell me anything.\u201d Thom pressed a kiss to the top of my head. \u201cIt\u2019s okay. We\u2019ll make it. We always do and we always will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was right, at least about the firsts part. The rest, I wasn\u2019t sure of, but he certainly sounded like he was. I sighed and nestled closer. His fingers tightened slightly in my hair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love you,\u201d he murmured softly. \u201cAnd I trust you. Don\u2019t ever forget that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love you, too.\u201d I trusted him, too, but he didn\u2019t need me to tell him that, not right now. It would have felt empty, hollow, saying the words. He didn\u2019t need the reassurance. I did. I sucked in another breath, trying to steady myself again. \u201cWhat have you been seeing? The dreams?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He sighed, fingers loosening for a moment. He was warm with fever. I\u2019d have to talk to Jac or J.T. about something for it once he was asleep again, once I\u2019d managed to center myself again. \u201cThe weeks and days leading to her coming,\u201d he said after a long silence. \u201cThe anticipation, the worry, the moments of <em>knowing<\/em> coupled with the relief of one threat passing and another coming. Do you remember?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I bit my lip but nodded slightly. It was fragmented, but the pieces were there. \u201cA little. It was after C\u00edar came home.\u201d If I were honest, most of the memories about that time were focused on Brigh\u00edd and her twin, on her joy and pain at his return and all that he\u2019d suffered and her inability to do anything about it. I wasn\u2019t sure if that said more about her or if it said something about me, the memories that floated to the surface, what they focused on.
