That\u2019s something.\u201d She glanced at the basket where the twins were sleeping, cuddled up against each other, and sighed softly. \u201cI don\u2019t know what I\u2019d do if I was alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReasons for everything,\u201d Hecate whispered, then took a sip of coffee, closing her eyes, her expression transforming into something close to bliss for a moment. One corner of Matt\u2019s mouth quirked upward into a smile as he watched her.<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s the little things, isn\u2019t it?<\/em> He took a slow sip of coffee and stared at the fire for a few moments. \u201cIt could be nothing,\u201d he said into the silence that hung in the air for a few moments between the three.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of us believe that,\u201d Tala said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d he agreed. \u201cBut we\u2019re also a bunch of really paranoid bastards these days, aren\u2019t we?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, you can only get bitten so many times before that happens.\u201d Hecate leaned against him, eyes sliding closed again. Even Lin\u2019s eyes were drooping, his fingers finally loosening around his aunt\u2019s braid. Matt looked down at both of them, a faint smile creeping across his face again. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Tala shake her head, but he could also see her smile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can hope, right?\u201d Tala said softly.<\/p>\n<p>Matt nodded, pressing a kiss to Hecate\u2019s head. \u201cWe\u2019ve got to. Otherwise, I\u2019m not sure what the hell the point of it all is.\u201d He hated to leave them, but he knew he had to, just in case\u2014they\u2019d need to be ready. He gulped down another mouthful of coffee. \u201cI\u2019ll be right back,\u201d he murmured. \u201cNeed to go get something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBring mine, too,\u201d Hecate said, her arms tightening around Lin for a moment. \u201cJust in case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His heart seized for a moment, but he nodded, exhaling quietly. \u201cOkay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>I have to trust her.
