\u201cYou think it\u2019s something, too, don\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Thordin took a slow, deep breath, his heart sinking at Hecate\u2019s soft voice. He nodded once, staring into his mug of coffee for a few seconds before his gaze flicked up, back toward her and Matt. \u201cI do,\u201d he admitted quietly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho do you think it is?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLeviathan,\u201d he said, surprising himself at his own lack of hesitation. \u201cIf it\u2019s anyone, it\u2019s him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hecate shuddered, startling Lin, who started to fuss softly. She rushed to soothe him, seemingly grateful for the distraction. Thordin winced slightly.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry,\u201d he murmured softly. \u201cI didn\u2019t\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nothing we haven\u2019t already considered,\u201d Matt said, shaking his head. \u201cIt\u2019s all right. We\u2019re just hoping it\u2019s nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re all hoping.\u201d Marin\u2019s voice was heavy, grim as she joined them. Her bow was in hand and she seemed tired\u2014not that Thordin could blame her at all for being tired. \u201cSomething tells me it\u2019s not going to be that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you want to play this?\u201d Matt asked quietly. A rumble of thunder punctuated his words. It hadn\u2019t grown dark enough to herald the storm\u2019s true arrival, but the sound was definitely a forerunner to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlay what?\u201d Marin snagged a mug and poured herself a cup of coffee from the press. She\u2019d taken two gulps before her brother could answer the question.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow we\u2019re handling the situation, Mar. That\u2019s what I\u2019m asking about. Before anyone else shows up, we need to have that figured out, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

She stared at him for a few seconds over the rim of her mug, then lowered it, sighing. \u201cIf I knew exactly what the hell we were facing, then I might have a plan. Right now, I\u2019ve got nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPar for the course,\u201d Thordin murmured, then sighed. \u201cWe\u2019ll figure it out.\u201d<\/p>\n
