\u201cWhat the hell<\/em> are you doing?\u201d<\/p>\n

Thom jerked toward the sound of his voice, unbalancing and nearly falling. J.T. cursed under his breath and grabbed his friend before he fell.<\/p>\n

\u201cChrist, Thom,\u201d he muttered. \u201cI thought you were asleep.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cClearly not,\u201d Thom rasped, forcing himself upright. He wavered, but managed it\u2014barely. J.T. slowly let go.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should be in bed. You look like hell.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like hell,\u201d Thom said, scrubbing a hand roughly over his face. \u201cWhere\u2019s Marin?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot sure. Probably still at the main fire unless she\u2019s gone out to the wall for a report. It\u2019s starting to rain out there.\u201d He eyed Thom for a few seconds, starting to feel queasy. Thom hadn\u2019t looked this bad since a year before, when everything had come crashing down around them. It was disconcerting.<\/p>\n

Worse because I have no idea what the hell is going on with him.<\/em> J.T.\u2019s lips thinned. Thom noticed exhaling with a huff.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to talk to her,\u201d he said, starting to move. His gait was uneven, unsteady. J.T. cursed under his breath.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can\u2019t wait?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Thom said, voice like ice. \u201cNo, it sure as hell can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n
