Cameron smiled faintly as he watched her, settling back down to sit cross-legged again nearby, where the ground wasn\u2019t nearly as damp from the washtub. Artorius yawned, but his eyes didn\u2019t close\u2014they were wide, watching his mother and his sister as he lay nestled in the crook of his father\u2019s arm. Neve sighed softly. \u201cI have a lot of those, Cam. What kind of story?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could say surprise me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She snorted a laugh. \u201cSo then they\u2019re right when they say having a husband is like having an additional child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He choked on his own laugh. \u201cRight, okay. Let me think.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neve grinned over her shoulder at him, then finished rinsing Anne and lifted her from the water, moving her over to a waiting blanket to diaper and swaddle the infant. Cameron found himself distracted from trying to decide what sort of story he wanted to hear by the simple actions of a mother caring for her child\u2014their child.<\/p>\n<p>A sigh escaped him and Neve looked at him again, wrapping Anne in her swaddle with easy, practiced motions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d she asked softly, moving to sit next to him, Anne safely cradled in one arm.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron shook his head. \u201cNothing,\u201d he whispered softly. \u201cJust\u2014I got distracted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He nodded, smiling crookedly as he caught sight of the faint hint of a smile that tugged at one corner of her mouth. \u201cYes. You seem to do that easily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor now,\u201d she said, leaning her shoulder against his. \u201cWe\u2019ll see how long that lasts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I were to venture a guess, probably forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A faint blush stole across her cheeks and she leaned in to kiss his jaw gently, resting her forehead against his temple for a moment afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t deserve you,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat makes two of us.\u201d His lips brushed hers and she smiled, leaning into him as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
