\u201cYou\u2019re dwelling too much again,\u201d Matt said. Thom startled slightly, not looking up right away, though the words sent a shiver down his spine.<\/p>\n

Am I?<\/em><\/p>\n

He frowned at the blank page of his sketchbook, then finally looked up toward his brother-in-law. \u201cYou think so?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSeems like it,\u201d Matt said, flipping the scythe blade. He studied it for a few seconds before he eased it back into the embers of the forge to heat again. \u201cFigured I\u2019d call you on it before it got out of hand. That\u2019s one of the reasons you keep me around, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

Thom grinned. \u201cOh, is that it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt shrugged, carefully shifting the blade. \u201cCould be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot the only reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t say it was the only<\/em> reason.\u201d Matt looked back at him, smiling crookedly. \u201cI\u2019m serious, though. Don\u2019t worry so damn much.\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019ll give yourself an ulcer and I\u2019m pretty sure we don\u2019t have a good way to handle those right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably right,\u201d Thom agreed, taking his pencil from over his ear and setting it to paper again. He started sketching out the lines of a large building, noting calculations along one side of the page, trying to work through in his head how it would be possible to build with the people and resources they had available, trying to sort out what else they\u2019d need. Matt watched him for a few seconds more before he checked on the metal in the heat of the forge.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got sketches of so many things you want to build,\u201d Matt said quietly. \u201cSo many plans<\/em>. Is there a list? A map?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t done a map in months,\u201d Thom murmured. \u201cMaybe not since the beginning. And a list…\u201d he sighed. \u201cWhat good would a list be? Priorities keep shifting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Matt said. \u201cReference, I guess. Something to help us set goals and tick off boxes.\u201d<\/p>\n
