Phelan shivered.<\/p>\n<p><em>Luck.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hairs stirred on his arms and the back of his neck, a true chill creeping over him. His heart started to beat a little faster and he straightened slightly from his lean against the log bench, looking around warily.<\/p>\n<p><em>What in\u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He spotted Leinth, her expression like the sky before a winter storm\u2014a mask of calm with the promise of ice and wind in her eyes. Phelan met her gaze steadily, dread coiling into an ever-tighter ball in his belly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething\u2019s coming,\u201d she said, her voice a snarl as she seized the coffee pot, pouring a mug of the stuff. A chill radiated from her, an echo of her power. \u201cCan you sense it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phelan shook his head. \u201cNothing that I can name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A curse dropped from her lips and she turned toward the fire, staring broodingly into the flames. Tala glanced at Phelan, her brow arching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDangerous precedents,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>He groaned and scrubbed a hand across his face. \u201cWhat are you sensing, Leinth?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamiliar?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leinth hesitated a moment, considering the question with a faint frown. \u201cYes and no. Not recently. But I know it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething new, then.\u201d Phelan swallowed a groan, scrubbing his hand over his face again. \u201cDamn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDamn indeed,\u201d Leinth said softly. She looked at Tala, lips thinning. \u201cI interrupted, didn\u2019t I?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust diffuse bad feelings and a conversation about precedents being set.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrecedents,\u201d Leinth echoed, glancing toward Phelan before back to Tala again. \u201cWhat the hell is that supposed to mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve forgotten, then,\u201d Tala said. \u201cWhat day it is?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She frowned, then cursed under her breath. \u201cAh. No. I\u2019ve not quite forgotten. I\u2019m sure I\u2019m not the only one who\u2019s trying, though.\u201d Leinth rubbed at her temple, taking a gulp of coffee as she started to pace. \u201cWhoever comes is old,\u201d she finally said after a few seconds. \u201cAn old enemy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of yours?\u201d Phelan asked quietly.<\/p>\n<p>She nodded. \u201cI think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of Seamus\u2019s?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was a brief hesitation followed by another nod. \u201cYes.
