05"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>[This post is from Marin&#8217;s point of view.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Phelan stared at me for a few seconds longer, his brow furrowing.\u00a0 There was no censure in his gaze, only the faintest sense of confusion, a sense I could wholly understand.\u00a0 He must have been wondering if it had been something I saw, if the <em>we<\/em> meant Thom and I or me and someone else\u2014perhaps even me and Hecate, considering the length of our conversation the day before and the development of our relationship over the past weeks.\u00a0 There were likely a thousand thoughts going through his head, none of them ones I was privy to, but most of them ones I could guess.<\/p>\n<p>I looked away, went to the fire, got some coffee.\u00a0 After a moment\u2019s hesitation, I poured one for Matt, too, knowing that once he got over his initial shock and the need to comfort Hecate\u2014why she was upset, I couldn\u2019t be sure\u2014he\u2019d appreciate it.\u00a0 Tala shot me a worried look.\u00a0 I just shook my head slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Her brow arched and the faintest frown curved her lips, then she shrugged and sighed, turning back to the skillets and pans.\u00a0 That was safer.\u00a0 We both knew it.\u00a0 She had that luxury.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell,\u201d she muttered, \u201cit\u2019s been quite a morning already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I frowned.\u00a0 \u201cWhat\u2019s that supposed to mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tala glanced at me again, her brow arching, then jerked her chin toward Matt and Hecate, Phelan and Leinth.\u00a0 \u201cAsk them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that\u2019s not\u2014\u201d Phelan aborted his protest as I turned to eye him along with Leinth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d I asked.\u00a0 \u201cWhat <em>did<\/em> we walk in on?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBad feelings, oath-exacting, and more bad feelings,\u201d Leinth said, crossing her arms without spilling her coffee.\u00a0 \u201cDoes that answer your question?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It did, but not to my satisfaction.\u00a0 \u201cOaths and bad feelings,\u201d I echoed, glancing between the two again.\u00a0 \u201cElaborate, please?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phelan sighed, scrubbing his hand over his face again.\u00a0 \u201cAre you sure you really want to know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m asking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight,\u201d he mumbled.\u00a0 \u201cRight.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[This post is from Marin&#8217;s point of view.] Phelan stared at me for a few seconds longer, his brow furrowing.\u00a0 There was no censure in his gaze, only the faintest sense of confusion, a sense I could wholly understand.\u00a0 He &hellip;
