It was a moment before Thom\u2019s laughter faded, before a pall settled over them again. His gaze drifted toward Seamus, who sat picking at his meal. \u201cWhat can you tell us about him? About what we\u2019re going to end up facing?\u201d<\/p>\n

Seamus paused, staring at the ground for a few seconds, beyond the edge of his plate. His lips pursed for a moment, his brow furrowing, then he exhaled a sigh. \u201cHe bears heavy grudges.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t much of an answer, but it was an answer. Hecate choked on a laugh and earned a sharp look from Leinth. Seamus glanced up and smiled weakly at her, shaking his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m glad someone laughed.\u201d He grimaced, stirring his food on his plate without really focusing on it or anything else beyond his own thoughts. \u201cHe\u2019s larger than many of the people we\u2019ve faced, physically. His magic isn\u2019t as powerful, though, which I suppose bodes well for us. We\u2019ll have that advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot if it\u2019s really the dirae he\u2019s gathered,\u201d Phelan murmured.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can call them,\u201d Hecate reminded him. \u201cIf it comes to that, then I will. It would be worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt\u2019s arms tightened and his words echoed in her head.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t worth the risk. Nothing is worth that risk, not after what happened the last time you counter-called. None of it is worth the risk.<\/p>\n
