07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>[This post is from Hecate&#8217;s point of view.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She stared out at the water beyond the trees, fingers buried in the dirt.\u00a0 She\u2019d been sitting there in the grass, tucked into a small clearing not far from the shore, for hours, watching the waves crash against the shore, breathing deeply the scent of salt and the sea and trying to capture what little peace she could here, in this place.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She wished she could stay, but she knew that she couldn\u2019t, that this trip, like so many others, was stolen time and soon enough, she\u2019d be missed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The only signal she had before she sensed him was the sound of a paw against brush, then the warmth of a wolf alongside her.\u00a0 The creature leaned against her and she smiled weakly, eyes stinging as she reached up to rub its ears.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cHello,\u201d she whispered to it.\u00a0 \u201cWhere\u2019s your master?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She sensed him, then, and turned.\u00a0 She smiled, though he could not see her as he moved through the trees and brush as if he could still see them.\u00a0 C\u00edar was dressed in doeskin leggings and knee-high boots, a linen tunic beneath a wool wrap and a cloak.\u00a0 He smiled when she turned.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWere you waiting a long time?\u201d he asked softly as he came alongside her, reaching for her.\u00a0 She took his hand and slowly drew herself to her feet, stepping into his chest even as he gathered her against him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cNo,\u201d she whispered.\u00a0 \u201cNot that I noticed, anyway.\u00a0 Time here&#8230;time here always feels too short but also seems to go on forever.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 C\u00edar pressed a kiss to her temple, then to her lips.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m sorry.\u00a0 It was hard to steal away.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to war.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI know,\u201d she said.\u00a0 \u201cWord reached us on the continent.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t want you to worry.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI will anyway.\u201d\u00a0 Her fingers tangled in the wool and linen.\u00a0 \u201cUnless I make myself forget and I do not want to ever forget anything about you.\u00a0 I love you too much.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cAnd I, you.\u201d\u00a0 He kissed her again, arms tightening.\u00a0 She sighed into his shirt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cForever wouldn\u2019t be long enough.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cNo.\u00a0 And all we have is what we have.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She sighed, pressing her face harder against his chest.\u00a0 He rested his chin against her hair.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cAlways, Peia.\u00a0 I will love you always.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[This post is from Hecate&#8217;s point of view.] She stared out at the water beyond the trees, fingers buried in the dirt.\u00a0 She\u2019d been sitting there in the grass, tucked into a small clearing not far from the shore, for &hellip;
