Teague smiled faintly, leaning in to nuzzle her cheek. A tear slipped free of his lashes, running from his cheek to hers. She brushed it away from his cheek, wrapping both arms around him, drawing him and their son close.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t deserve you,\u201d Teague murmured into her hair. \u201cYou know that, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course you deserve me.\u201d Kira pressed a kiss to his cheek, then his jaw. \u201cYou waited for me for centuries. If that\u2019s not love, I don\u2019t know what is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing in love doesn\u2019t mean I deserve you,\u201d he whispered, wrapping one arm around her, though loosely, comfortably, the other arm cradling their son. \u201cWaiting doesn\u2019t mean that I do, either.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, too bad,\u201d she said. \u201cBecause I think you deserve me. I think we deserve each other in all the best ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

He choked on a laugh but didn\u2019t argue any further. His arm tightened for a few seconds. \u201cI do love you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood. I love you more.\u201d Kira kissed him again, squeezing him tightly, then dropped a kiss onto their son\u2019s forehead before she let go, stepping back. She turned to head back to the laundry. \u201cAnd we shouldn\u2019t worry. I have no doubt that all of them are incredibly capable of facing whatever you didn\u2019t anticipate. Phelan alone is damned formidable, and I can only imagine that Neve is, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is,\u201d he murmured. \u201cIn so many ways that I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever really appreciated. I never\u2014\u201d he broke off, sighing softly. \u201cI should have paid more attention. To a lot of things, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou didn\u2019t know,\u201d Kira said. \u201cHow could you? I mean\u2014Teague. There was no way to know and she\u2019s your sister<\/em>. I know you. All you\u2019ve ever done is want to protect her.\u201d<\/p>\n
