The mare made a sound, shifting, and a second later he heard the sound of footsteps\u2014ones that had become as familiar to him as the sound of his own breath. Cameron unconsciously stretched his hand out toward the sound. A moment later, he found Neve\u2019s fingers twining through his and squeezing gently.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought you\u2019d be trying to get some rest,\u201d he said quietly.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard when you\u2019re not there,\u201d she murmured, stepping toward him and pressing herself against his back. Her free arm slid around his waist, holding him close. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be an early morning. I figured you\u2019d come to bed equally early. Sounds like a lot of people are.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll be back sooner than we think,\u201d he murmured, bowing his head. He leaned forward against the horse\u2019s flank and Neve leaned with him, her cheek against his spine, her breath stirring the hairs on the back of his neck.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just know.\u201d Cameron closed his eyes and sighed. \u201cDo you want me to come to bed?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly if you think you\u2019ll sleep,\u201d Neve said. \u201cDo you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

She nodded a little. \u201cThen don\u2019t. Do you want company?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t mind it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He could feel her smile. \u201cThen I\u2019ll stay.\u201d She squeezed him a little. \u201cYou\u2019re not all right.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFretting won\u2019t do you or anyone else any good, Cam.\u201d She pressed a kiss to the back of his neck.<\/p>\n

He huffed a soft laugh. \u201cI\u2019m not fretting. I\u2019m trying to make a decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh?\u201d<\/p>\n

He nodded, straightening slightly and starting to brush the mare again. Neve let go of his hand to wrap her other arm around his waist. She stood there, holding him in silence.<\/p>\n

She was waiting, and he knew it\u2014they both knew it. If there was no other proof for him that they were soul mates, that was it. That was it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
