Seamus pitched upright, gasping in a breath. \u201cLeinth,\u201d he choked, fingers tangling in the bedding. Neve pivoted immediately, moving back to his bedside. Sweat beaded on his brow and he hunched forward slightly, sucking in short but deep breaths.<\/p>\n

He slanted a look at his sister. \u201cWhere is she?\u201d<\/p>\n

Neve swallowed hard, struggling to find the right words. Seamus\u2019s eyes narrowed and his tone took on a note of urgency and command.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is she, Neve? Where\u2019s my wife?\u201d<\/p>\n

A shudder shot through her and she reached for one of his hands. \u201cLay back down, Seamus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened?\u201d he asked, voice sharp. \u201cNeve, tell me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust lay down first. Please.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stared at her for a few seconds, almost scowling, then slowly eased back down to his pillows. He was pale except for two spots of color high in his cheeks. She knew without checking that he was running a fever.<\/p>\n

Calm. Be calm. You can do this.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe others rode out against Orcus,\u201d Neve said. \u201cLeinth went with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stared at her, his breathing starting to slow after a few seconds. His head lolled to the side, looking away from her. \u201cThat explains it,\u201d he whispered. \u201cGods and monsters, that explains it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cExplains what?\u201d Neve leaned forward. \u201cSeamus?\u201d<\/p>\n
