Her hands were deft, her movements certain\u2014she knew what she was doing, he had to give her that.\u00a0 Bryant could tell that much easily enough.\u00a0 While he didn\u2019t have his father\u2019s skill or much in the way of training, it was easy to see that she\u2019d been a healer for a long time\u2014perhaps as far back as the end of everything.<\/p>\n

She seems like she would be a little young to be like Dad, though.<\/em>\u00a0 His lips thinned despite his attempts to keep his expression impassive as he watched the stranger work.\u00a0 There was something oddly comforting about it, something that if he reflected on it a little more would certainly be less odd.<\/p>\n

In her mannerisms and her actions, she did<\/em> remind him of his father.\u00a0 It had been so long since he\u2019d seen him, it was enough to make him ache somewhere deep in his chest.<\/p>\n

For a second, he closed his eyes.\u00a0 When he opened them, it was to see her watching him, her expression soft, sympathetic.<\/p>\n

His brows knit.\u00a0 \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just seem sadder than you were a moment ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

He forced a smile and shook his head.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s nothing.\u00a0 How is he?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll need to mix up a few things to try,\u201d she said.\u00a0 \u201cHopefully they\u2019ll help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryant nodded slowly.\u00a0 \u201cHave they helped your friends before?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA few times,\u201d she said softly.\u00a0 \u201cBut it\u2019s been a long time since I\u2019ve had to mix up any of it, so we\u2019ll see how it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you still have what you need?\u201d<\/p>\n
