David jerked upright and every bone and muscle in his body screamed<\/em> in protest.\u00a0 His throat was dry, but he knew that he\u2019d must have said something<\/em> upon waking because Bryant and a strange woman were staring at him\u2014that much he could see through watering eyes.<\/p>\n

Bryant managed to catch him as he started to fall backward again toward his pillows.\u00a0 The room was unfamiliar, but he was in a bed, and that, at least seemed a welcome relief.\u00a0 An actual bed had been a luxury that he\u2019d missed over the past few months.<\/p>\n

It <\/em>has been months, right?<\/em><\/p>\n

Disorientation and time loss was, in fact, a vicious beast.<\/p>\n

\u201cEasy,\u201d Bryant said.\u00a0 \u201cEasy, easy.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay.\u00a0 You\u2019re safe here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre we?\u201d\u00a0 It felt safe, anyway, but he was never sure anymore.\u00a0 Despite knowing in his gut that they were supposed<\/em> to be here, that they were supposed to find <\/em>something here, that didn\u2019t always mean safety.\u00a0 They\u2019d learned that the hard way once or twice since leaving home.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are,\u201d the woman assured him.\u00a0 He squinted at her as Bryant settled him against the pillows again, brow furrowing.\u00a0 She seemed familiar somehow, like someone he should remember.<\/p>\n

Is she someone I know, or someone I come to know?\u00a0 Have I seen her before?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cYour uncle is looking forward to actually meeting you,\u201d she continued softly.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy uncle?\u201d he echoed softly, thoughts scattering for a moment.\u00a0 Then it hit him.<\/p>\n

Phelan.\u00a0 This is where Phelan lives.<\/em><\/p>\n

It had taken his entire life, but he\u2019d finally found a Taleisin\u2014and hopefully that Taleisin would be able to help him untangle the web of visions and tales and legends that were all bound up together inside his head.<\/p>\n

At least, he hoped so.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not why\u2014<\/em><\/p>\n

Is it?<\/em><\/p>\n

No.\u00a0 No, there\u2019s more here than just that.<\/em><\/p>\n
