Two young men who couldn\u2019t have been any older than his friends stopped dead in their tracks, only steps from the door.\u00a0 Bryant choked on a laugh, barely preventing himself from shaking his head.<\/p>\n

Of course he\u2019d know.\u00a0 If I\u2019d waited any longer, they\u2019d have been lifting a hand to knock and wouldn\u2019t <\/em>that have been creepy beyond all reason.<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the men was familiar\u2014Bryant thought his name was Lin\u2014and had been one of the two to escort them to the cottage.\u00a0 The other was someone he was sure he\u2019d never seen before, but somehow felt familiar anyway.\u00a0 That second man cleared his throat, glancing back at Lin before his gaze returned to Bryant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not interrupting, are we?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Bryant said, stepping clear of the doorway.\u00a0 \u201cCome in.\u00a0 We\u2014\u201d he broke off with a quiet snort.\u00a0 \u201cI shouldn\u2019t say we were all expecting you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was,\u201d David said from the bed.\u00a0 This time, Bryant did<\/em> shake his head, holding the door as their guests came inside.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat doesn\u2019t surprise me,\u201d Lin murmured, collapsing into a chair and scrubbing a hand over his eyes.\u00a0 His companion cut a look in his direction, then took a deep breath.<\/p>\n
