A shiver crept through him as he stepped out of the cottage, pulling the door closed behind him.\u00a0 Tory could smell rain on the wind and as she shoved his hands into his pockets and started away, toward the village\u2019s walls, hoping that with a little air and a little space he\u2019d be able to process everything he\u2019d just learned.<\/p>\n

There was part of him that wondered how much of this his mother had known, or at least suspected\u2014and for how long.<\/p>\n

That<\/em> was almost enough to send a fresh shiver down his back.<\/p>\n

\u201cProphecies,\u201d he muttered to himself, then shook his head.\u00a0 \u201cBecause we don\u2019t already have enough to deal with around here, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

Because I don\u2019t have enough that I\u2019m trying to sort out for myself.<\/em><\/p>\n

No one stopped him as he headed through the gates and down across old, broken concrete and grass, wandering a pathway his feet knew without his thinking about it.\u00a0 He\u2019d forgotten his fishing gear, but that didn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t going fishing today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
