Lin stared at the forge for a few seconds, his brow furrowing slightly.\u00a0 \u201cAunt Caro could only give me a direction that they left in.\u00a0 Did you…?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKnow where they were going?\u201d\u00a0 Matt sighed and scrubbed his free hand over his face, suddenly not caring if he left a smudge of soot behind in its wake.\u00a0 \u201cNot in any kind of precise way.\u00a0 No one that we have contact with has ever said anything about seeing them, though, so either they avoided all of the usual places Cameron stops, no one recognized them for who they were, or they somehow swore everyone to secrecy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lin seemed to slump, his frown deepening.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s…\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot helpful,\u201d Matt said.\u00a0 \u201cI know, Lin.\u00a0 But it tells you where you don\u2019t<\/em> have to start, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat doesn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLin, my life hasn\u2019t made sense since before you were born.\u201d\u00a0 He cracked a smile even as his nephew shot him a deeply skeptical look.\u00a0 \u201cAll kidding aside, if you\u2019re going with our visitors off on their quest for…well\u2026for whatever comes after finding their once and future king, don\u2019t you think you should support them rather than focusing on your personal quest here?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou make them sound mutually exclusive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNeither of us know at this point if they are or not, Lin.\u00a0 But I think if anyone\u2019s going to be able to find your parents, it\u2019s going to be you, but it\u2019s only going to be if they want<\/em> to be found.\u201d\u00a0 He sighed quietly.\u00a0 \u201cAnd unless they\u2019ve reached the goal they set for themselves already, they\u2019re not going to want to be found.\u201d<\/p>\n

And if they\u2019ve reached that goal, have they found another?\u00a0 Or have they simply resigned themselves to never, ever coming home?<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
