The first drops of rain spattered against the stones of the path and Matt winced, knowing he\u2019d waited too long\u2014or maybe Hecate had waited too long to come and fetch him.\u00a0 One glance toward the sky told him exactly how much water was there, waiting to fall.<\/p>\n

Wish Thordin had warned me this morning.<\/em><\/p>\n

Of course, his friend might not have known, or might not have thought about it.\u00a0 There was just so much going on\u2014perhaps it hadn\u2019t seemed important.<\/p>\n

After all, it was just a normal summer storm.<\/p>\n

I assume it\u2019s a normal summer storm, anyway.\u00a0 Just probably a nasty one\u2014maybe worse than what we\u2019ve had in a while.<\/em><\/p>\n

He finished closing up, banked the forge, then gathered a few odds and ends on his way to the door.\u00a0 The rain was falling in fat drops, though it wasn\u2019t heavy\u2014at least not yet.\u00a0 Perhaps he\u2019d make it down to the lodge before the worst of the rain started falling.\u00a0 A cup of something bracing and a snack before dinner sounded good, though he\u2019d need to wash up before partaking in either.<\/p>\n

For a few seconds, he squinted at the rain, then the clouds.\u00a0 If I\u2019m not quick enough or this is moving in faster than I think it is, that\u2019s going to be a moot point.<\/em><\/p>\n

Taking a deep breath and giving the heavy clouds one more look, Matt ducked his head and started down the hill toward the village proper, hoping against hope that he wouldn\u2019t end up soaked to the bone as he went.<\/p>\n

Something tugged at his gut, felt wrong, but he couldn\u2019t put his finger on it.<\/p>\n
