Peril exhaled a long-suffering sigh, one that suggested the weight of every single one of his teenaged years.\u00a0 Kailey continued to stare parallel to where he was sitting, trying not to pay any attention to him, though the sound was already enough to start to unravel her resolve.<\/p>\n

I should have just gone home.\u00a0 I should\u2019ve gone home and locked the door.\u00a0 No one would have come to bother me, especially not with the storm.\u00a0 I swear, what was I thinking?<\/em><\/p>\n

But that was the question, wasn\u2019t it?\u00a0 She was thinking too much, too many things.<\/p>\n

Everything<\/em> was just too much.<\/p>\n

What the actual hell did I do to deserve any of this, really?\u00a0 Why me?<\/em><\/p>\n

Peril sat down beside her and she jumped, then glared at him.\u00a0 He just offered her a cheeky grin.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the actual hell, Peril?\u201d<\/p>\n

He shrugged.\u00a0 \u201cYou were in your own world.\u00a0 I asked you three times if you were okay and you didn\u2019t answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was ignoring you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was not<\/em> your \u2018I\u2019m ignoring you\u2019 look, Kay.\u00a0 You were on another planet<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her nose wrinkled as her fingers tightened around her mug.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t want to talk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I heard you say that.\u201d\u00a0 He shook his head.\u00a0 \u201cI just really don\u2019t care that you don\u2019t want to, because I can tell you need to, so why don\u2019t you just spill and get it off your chest and then you can go back to being your bright and sunshiny self?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not<\/em> bright and sunshiny.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCompared to some of our friends, trust me, you are.\u00a0 But right now, you\u2019ve got a level of attitude toxic enough to take down a buck, so I wish you\u2019d just chill.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d rather hit you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019d have to catch me first.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that a challenge?\u201d<\/p>\n
