\u201cOf course I can,\u201d Peril said, abruptly straightening, is eyes all but blazing as he stared at her.\u00a0 His voice rose in both tenor and cadence, words tumbling over each other.\u00a0 \u201cWe have been stuck<\/em> here our whole lives, Kay.\u00a0 None of us\u00a0 have ever been further away than New Hope.\u00a0 Now there\u2019s a chance that we get to go somewhere and do something<\/em> important and you\u2019re ready to tell these people to sit and spin?\u00a0 You\u2019re batshit.\u00a0 If I was you, I\u2019d already be gone<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s because you wouldn\u2019t stop to think<\/em>,\u201d she snapped, her wide-eyed stare sharpening into something that was more like a glare.\u00a0 \u201cPeril, there\u2019s a lot more to all of this than just a damn field trip!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d he drawled.\u00a0 \u201cYeah, I get that.\u00a0 All of us get that, Kay.\u00a0 You\u2019re just flipping out because you\u2019re terrified to even contemplate what leaving home might actually mean.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hell you\u2019re not.\u201d\u00a0 Peril shook his head, gulping down his tea.\u00a0 Still soaking wet, he got up, heading for the doors.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m going to go find Lin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this storm?\u00a0 To do what<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat else?\u00a0 Strategize.\u00a0 Figure out exactly what the next steps are.\u00a0 You must\u2019ve realized by now that most of us are going to leave with them, Kay.\u00a0 Even if you decide not to come along, you\u2019re still going to be stuck alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
